Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock and is the #1 cause of lung cancer for non-smokers. Saskatchewan has high levels of radon. You can check the levels of radon in your home by using one of our radon detectors.

How to borrow a detector:

  • Visit our Online Catalogue
  • Place a hold and choose your pickup location - we will notify you when it is ready.
  • Go to your local branch to pick up your radon detector
  • Staff will check it out on your library card
  • You can return the kit to any Palliser Regional Library branch
  • *Note: Kits will be available to borrow from October 1 to April 1; To avoid false low readings, radon testing should only be done during the winter months when windows are kept closed.

Rules for Borrowing:

  • You must be a Palliser Regional Library cardholder to borrow a Radon detector
  • You can borrow a radon detector for a maximum of four weeks, with no renewals.
  • There is a limit of 1 detector per card.
  • Detectors must be picked up and dropped off at a Palliser Regional Library branch

Don't have a library card?

  • Sign up online: you will be able to place a hold on a kit with your temporary online barcode;
  • visit your nearest branch to complete your registration and pick up your kit.
